There
were many personal problems facing me when I first worked on this
album. The initial working sessions started in early 2000! Songs
such as Madness (which was included on the cd in the multimedia
section), and obscure titles such as Insane (which later became
Cancer [final part]) were very early and from that era. The death
of my father in the fall of 2000 put me in a depressive state
for nearly a year. I thought that Scrape would have finally been
finished but in the fall of 2001, I found the emotions and the
force I needed to create Coldest of Snows. These emotions are
extremely harsh, even for me!!! I decided to
let completely loose and see what would happen. The songwriting
on this release was at times very spontaneous and the lyrics were
totally so. This allowed us to record an album that had a more
loose feel so that the message came through more clearly without
being obscured and/or lost by the production. I was also experimenting
with more tools than ever before (some songs are completely generated
within the computer while others are midi with keyboards as per
the other cd's released before this).
I
had decided to do the artwork again as well and see if I could
go in a somewhat different direction to reflect the title as well
as the feeling of the album. I had originally tried to get a new
logo designed but this turned out to be either expenisve or there
were conflicts. In the end, I had went with a very stone cold
design which you see a glimpse of in the releases section.
Scrape
performed live at Club Zone in November and we had the show captured
on both video and audio. The audio part was handled by my partner
at 01-Music
and the video was done by Vincent Desmarais. I wanted to capture
this to show the live side of Scrape. People say that our shows
are scary and that I am an intimidating person. Wait until the
new shows! hehehe.... At any rate we chose 2 songs for the multimedia
section that sounded good and also had quality shots.
So
what is left after I spilled my guts into this release? Will I
go back to the sex/death ideas of past releases? Who knows. I
think it is safe to say that I will continue to push the boundaries
facing me personally and also musically. Rest assured that we
will continue on in some capacity. I have more to tell and fresh
unpleasantries yet to create!!
Newsflash!
The
Coldest of Snows CD is being distributed in Europe by Xtortion
Distribution. We decided to make a special CD with improved
artwork (lyrics are included, but there is no multimedia section
and the CD's are not numbered). There are only a few of the numbered
versions left. We will send out some to Mindwerk
in Denmark to add to their catalogue. Once the numbered CD's are
gone, they are gone. The multimedia section is only available
on this version so
act now before it's too late!
Many
thanks to Marc Bertola for the printing of the Coldest of Snows
covers, and thanks to Blip for their help in the re-release of
Coldest of Snows. Thanks also go out to Xtortion Distribution
and Mindwerk for their help in getting this release distributed.
You guys are the best!
